For any Libertarian who has ever served on the LP Bylaws committee or the LNC or subscribed to the old LPUS email list, you are probably familiar with Demorep1 and his rantings about the gerrymander and the need for proportional representation.
Today I learned of a new study/hypothesis that suggests that gerrymanders protect us from extreme partisanship. The study is by Dr. David C. King of Harvard University and titled: Extreme Politics: Polarization in the United States. For those who don’t want to read the 104 page document, there is a significantly shorter article about it titled, Polarization May Not Be What It Seems to Be.
Do I believe him? I don’t really care. So long as Democrats and Republicans are merely debating how much of my life they should regulate and how much of my money they should take, it doesn’t really matter.
