Intransience remains the order of the day amoungst the main players in the bush administration when it comes to the their war against the people of Iraq.
In an August 1st news conference, bush remarked “A failed Iraq would make America less secure.” “…it would give the terrorists and extremists an additional tool besides safe haven, and that is revenues from oil sales.” “…If you think problems are tough now, imagine what it would be like if the United States leaves before this government has a chance to defend herself…”
And from a Defense Dept. report on Rumsfeld’s recent speech to the VFW in Utah:”Rumsfeld pointed to the true picture in Iraq, where a country once brutalized by a dictatorship is moving toward a new future…”
V.P. Dick Cheney also addressed the VFW: “I realize, as well, that some in our own country claim retreat from Iraq would satisfy the appetite of the terrorists and get them to leave us alone. But the exact opposite is true.”
But this isn’t about the validity of the war; it’s about the position taken with regards to it by some of it’s more prominent proponents and those closely associated with them.
And in some cases, the very noticable failure to express a position. (more…)
